Metropolis is about telling everyday stories of people living in the world’s least developed countries. Local video makers report on the human, personal side of life by focusing on small, and recognisable SDG-related topics. Life on that square meter with strong characters.

The Metropolis angle is always to be curious, positive and ready to be amazed by the resilience of human beings. The videos show in an original way that a person may be a victim on the one hand, but can also be a mother, entrepreneur or entertainer at the same time. The stories often deal with under reported aspects of life. Our method is show, don’t tell. These personal stories exemplify a bigger picture, giving impersonal statistics a human face.

The most important innovation will be the introduction of story threads. These take viewers on a journey where they can discover more about the reporter, the process of making the video, context and multiple perspectives on the topic. The timeline of the process will be published on the vpro.nl/metropolis subsite in a long-form ‘Metropolis Story Thread’ and also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
